Are house drawings a little outdated? Or are you looking for a simple, fun doodle idea that kids and adults can enjoy together? Well, here’s the answer: I’ve prepared a detailed but not intimidating house drawing guide perfectly suited for beginners.
If you’ve been stuck with the “square + triangle” formula for years, this article is for you. Come on, let’s modernize your house and enhance your drawing fun!

Why should I draw this house?
- It starts very simply and gets more detailed step by step.
- Fun for both children and adults.
- It doesn’t deal with perspective or complex shadows.
- You can personalize it as much as you want (roof, window, door, garden, smoke, etc.)
How to Draw? (Video)
In this drawing activity I prepared for preschoolers and children, I created a drawing tutorial video to help them build their drawing skills. I’m sharing the step-by-step house drawing and coloring video that I published on my YouTube channel, Mimy.
Watch the drawing tutorial video below, follow the necessary steps, and complete your house drawing!
- Basic shape: Draw a large rectangle in the center (the main body of the house). It doesn’t need to be perfectly straight; even a slightly curved shape will look cute.
- Roof time: Starting slightly above the top edges, draw two sloping lines and connect them at the top. Instead of a classic triangular roof, you can also make a slightly curved or a modern flat roof.
- Doors and windows: Place a rectangular door in the center at the bottom. Add a small semicircle above it to create a glass effect. Draw symmetrical (or asymmetrical, for more fun) windows on either side. Don’t forget to add small sill lines above the windows; it’ll look professional right away!
- Detail bombardment (this is where the fun begins): Smoke coming out of the chimney (three or five curved lines are enough).
- Tile pattern on the roof (zick-zack or round tiles)
- A small sign or number above the door
- A small tree, flower pot or path next to it
- Draw curtain folds on the windows (two or three wavy lines)
House Coloring Page (PDF)
If you don’t have time to draw and are looking for a coloring page based on the house drawing in the video, I’m sharing a printable, completely free PDF (A4 size) house coloring page with you.
You can access the printable PDF drawing page by clicking on the image below and pressing the green button below the image.

Home Painting Online
If you don’t have a printer to print out the drawings, or if you don’t want to deal with drawings, you can color the house drawing online using the drawing/coloring panel below on your computer or tablet.
What colors can it be painted in?
In the drawing tutorial video, I painted the exterior of the house pink and the roof red. To give you some ideas, I’m sharing two pictures of houses painted in different colors. You don’t need to think about which color to use! You can choose your favorite colors from the example painted house drawings and color them with colored pencils, pastels, or watercolors.
